Exploration and mining for minerals is fundamental to the economic growth of the State. It is important however that mineral development does not create unacceptable environmental impacts.

This pamphlet provides advice on the procedures relating to the grant of Mining Act 1978 tenements and the conduct of  exploration and mining operations on them within Conservation Reserves and Other Environmentally Sensitive Lands in Western Australia. It is intended to reflect the State Government’s policy for management of sensitive terrestrial environments and complements statutory requirements for the regulation of mineral exploration and mining in Western Australia.

This pamphlet covers only those mineral exploration and mining activities taking place on land Petroleum and mineral exploration and development in the marine environment are not included. It is a revision of the information Pamphlet No 11 issued in May 1995.
