Co-funded Government Industry Drilling Program 2010-2011

Monday, 15 March 2010

Explorers can now apply for up $150,000 for a multihole project or up to $200,000 for a single deep target to support innovative drilling in Western Australia’s under-explored areas under the Co-funded Government Industry Drilling Program.

The program is part of the five-year $80million Exploration Incentive Scheme (EIS) which is being coordinated by the Geological Survey of Western Australia, a division of the Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP).

The program was designed to stimulate geoscience-based exploration which would contribute to the economic development of under-explored areas in WA.

Applications for grants for drilling to be undertaken in the 2010–2011 financial year will be open between 22 February 2010 and 19 March 2010.

Over $5 million will be made available for co-funding of projects in this round.

The 2010-11 drilling program will preferentially fund projects that promote new mineral and energy targets, as well as innovative exploration concepts and technologies.

A number of changes have been made to this round of the drilling program as a result of feedback from industry. These changes have been supported by the Drilling Advisory Committee which consists of representatives of AMEC, APLA, CMEWA, APPEA and research groups.

Co-funding will remain at up to 50 per cent of direct drilling costs capped at $150,000 for general, multi-hole applications, but new categories of up to $200,000 for a single hole application and up to $20,000 for a prospector application have also been introduced.

This year applications must be made online. The application forms and details of the 2010-2011 program are at: www.dmp.wa.gov.au/EISdrilling
