Mining and Environment Industry Briefing presentations available online
Wednesday, 8 September 2010
The recent Mining and Environment Industry Briefing Day coordinated by the Department of Mines and Petroleum’s (DMP) Environment Division was a huge success with about 250 industry stakeholders attending.
The PowerPoint presentations from the day are now available on the Minerals and Environment section of DMP’s website.
The presentations were well received, particularly the one concerning On-line Lodgement of Proposals, which included an interactive session and demonstrations of the lodgement process.
“There was an excellent turnout to the briefing day and we received a lot of positive feedback during the event,” Environment Director Phil Gorey said.
As well as Dr Gorey guest speakers included Mines and Petroleum Minister Norman Moore and DMP Deputy Director General of Approvals Dr Tim Griffin.
The briefing also allowed the opportunity to discuss a soon-to-be-released strategy paper that will guide the future transparency arrangements for the department’s environmental regulation.
“DMP has taken a significant step forward in developing new systems to allow exploration and mining applications to be lodged online. These new systems will offer greater flexibility for applicants and will improve the speed and quality of assessments,” Dr Gorey said.
He said the purpose of improving transparency arrangements was to ensure industry and the community were well informed about standards and performance.
“The department has already taken significant steps in this regard and continues to publish industry guidance material and the performance tracking of applications,” Dr Gorey said.
