State Budget 2012-13: Building the State – New registrar office for Mount Magnet

• $1.33m committed to construction & relocation of Mount Magnet Registrar’s Office
• New facility ensures accessible services delivered to WA mining community

The State Government has committed $1.33million to build multi-purpose Government offices to replace the Mount Magnet Registrar’s Office. 

Mines and Petroleum Minister Norman Moore said the new modern building would continue to provide vital services to the Western Australian mining community, as well as other services by the Department of Transport, Department of the Attorney General, Western Australian Electoral Commission and Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor.

“Mount Magnet is an important regional office that is conveniently located at a close proximity to mine sites in the State’s Mid-West and Gascoyne region,” Mr Moore said.

“A presence in Mount Magnet meets the needs of the local community with prospecting, exploration and operations anticipated to continue into the future.

“The 115sqm of office space will also enable other services, such as such as licensing functions on behalf of the Department of Transport, court administration activities and paperwork for births, deaths and marriages for the Department of the Attorney General.” 

The Government’s 2012-13 State Budget commitment will fund the construction and relocation of a transportable building to replace the existing Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) Mining Registrar’s Office at Mount Magnet.

The previous office was closed as a precautionary step, to address concerns about the declining condition of the building.
