Approvals performance report now available

Wednesday, 29 April 2009

The first quarterly report on the Department of Mines and Petroleum’s approvals performance is now available on the approvals section of the DMP website.

The report is part of the department’s commitment to creating a more transparent approvals system and reforming the current system.

Acting Director General Stedman Ellis said the report showed the department had made good progress in most areas and that some areas required improvement.

“It’s important to note that the data does not include delays to the approvals process such as referrals to other government agencies, applicant inaction, and objections raised in the Warden’s Court,” Mr Ellis said.

“Steps are being taken to track an application’s progress so that internal areas or external agencies that may require a more expedient approach can be identified.

“DMP has implemented a new mining tenement database which means the department will be able to accurately report from the third quarter of this year on mining tenure applications that have been received since January 1, 2009.

“We are continuing to make improvements to our information systems to provide more comprehensive figures and trends in future reports, and we are advancing the introduction of online tracking of individual applications.”

Improving the approvals process is an across-government initiative.
