The latest news surrounding safety in Western Australia’s mining, petroleum and dangerous goods sectors is now available in the latest edition of MineSafe magazine.

The fresh looking May edition, produced by the Resources Safety Division of the Department of Mines and Petroleum, covers a variety of topics, ranging from Western Australian legislative news to a wrap-up of Resources Safety’s inaugural Exploration Safety Roadshow.

Readers are also introduced to a new feature on petroleum safety, which showcases Western Australian onshore hydrocarbon and geothermal-related news. The section dedicated to dangerous goods (includes explosives and fireworks) draws attention to some compliance issues.

Executive Director of Resources Safety, Malcolm Russell, said the magazine continues to deliver informative material to industry.

MineSafe is a valuable tool in assisting with the development of resources safety in Western Australia,” he said.

“In this issue, the State mining engineer completes his look at the origins of our mines safety system. And we introduce four of our highly experienced staff, including the new Director of Mines Safety, Simon Ridge. With a view to the future, Simon is calling for debate on the merits of a safety case regime for the State’s mining sector.

“In a brand new section, Crunching the numbers, readers can also find data collected by the Resources Safety team that may be of general interest, particularly in relation to health assessments and the distribution of safety and health representatives.

“The May issue also recognises industry people and organisations working to improve safety and health outcomes in Australia.”

Mr Russell said the latest edition of MineSafe was the first issue produced by Resources Safety since joining the newly formed Department of Mines and Petroleum.

MineSafe is produced three times a year, with the next edition scheduled to be released in August.
