New MineSafe hot off the press

Wednesday, 21 October 2009

The latest news surrounding safety and health in Western Australia’s mining, petroleum and dangerous goods sectors is now available in the October edition of MineSafe magazine.

Produced by the Department of Mines and Petroleum’s Resources Safety Division, the current issue covers a variety of topics, ranging from Western Australian legislative news to a wrap-up of the Chamber of Mineral and Energy’s Surface Mine Emergency Response Competition.

Readers can also read the latest significant incident reports and safety bulletins issued by Resources Safety, as well as information on occupational health issues surrounding fatigue and dust control on mine sites and the difference between hazardous and dangerous goods.

Executive Director of Resources Safety, Malcolm Russell, said the magazine continues to deliver informative material to industry.

“MineSafe is a valuable tool in assisting with the development of resources safety in Western Australia,” he said.

“In this issue, we introduce the new State mining engineer, Simon Ridge, who shares his thoughts on the importance of supervision in the workplace and safety as not only a priority, but a core value.

“Readers can also find the latest data collected by the Resources Safety team that may be of general interest, particularly in relation to hearing tests, injury statistics and the distribution of safety and health representatives.

“This issue also recognises industry people and organisations working to improve safety and health outcomes in Australia.”

MineSafe is produced three times a year, with the next edition scheduled to be released in December.
