Petroleum and Geothermal
The Petroleum and Geothermal area of the Petroleum and Environment Division is committed to advance the responsible development of industry and resources for the benefit of Western Australians.
The goal of the Division is to encourage and facilitate responsible exploration, development and production of petroleum resources including those in the adjacent offshore area, in a timely fashion, for the long-term benefit of all Western Australians.
Petroleum titles in Western Australia are granted in accordance with the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act 1967 (WA), Petroleum Pipelines Act 1969 (WA), Petroleum Submerged Lands Act 1982 (WA) and Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006 (Cwlth).
Geothermal titles in Western Australia are granted in accordance with the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act 1967 (WA).
The Division has significantly enhanced and improved its systems and procedures to streamline the approvals process for petroleum and geothermal titles by introducing:
- an online payments system;
- an internal tracking system to monitor the progress of applications; and
- an online application lodgement system.
In February 2009 the area had its Quality Management Systems (QMS) re certified under Standard(s) ISO 9001:2008 for a further 3 years.
