Petroleum and Geothermal Tenure

The Petroleum Division is committed to advance the responsible development of industry and resources for the benefit of Western Australians.

Petroleum titles in Western Australia are granted in accordance with the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act 1967, Petroleum Pipelines Act 1969 and Petroleum Submerged Lands Act 1982. 

Geothermal titles in Western Australia are granted in accordance with the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act 1967.

The Division has significantly enhanced and improved its systems and procedures to streamline the approvals process for petroleum and geothermal titles by introducing:

• an online payments system;
• an internal tracking system to monitor the progress of applications; and
• an online application lodgement system.
