The Gorgon LNG Project
The Gorgon LNG Project in Western Australia’s North West will be not only significant in economical terms but also for its application of new technology designed to decrease carbon dioxide emissions on a scale unmatched anywhere else in the world.
Global industry practice is to vent to the atmosphere reservoir CO2 gases separated from the hydrocarbon gases during processing. However, the Gorgon Joint Venturers (GJV) plan is to dispose of the CO2 by injecting it approximately 2km underground into the Dupuy Formation under Barrow Island.
