The Streamlining Bill consultation feedback available online

Industry response prompted key changes
Date: Friday, 03 September 2021

The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) has received a supportive response from stakeholders on the proposed amendments to the Mining Act 1978 and responses to the submissions are now available online.

Released for industry feedback in May 2021 for eight weeks, the Streamlining (Mining Amendment) Bill 2021 aims to make legislative changes to improve efficiencies for the application and assessment of environmental approvals and support economic recovery following COVID-19.

Through the introduction of a notification authorisation of low impact activities and the introduction of a single approvals statement for mining operations, the department hopes to modernise the regulatory framework and further reinforce a risk and outcomes based approach to regulation.

DMIRS Executive Director Resource and Environmental Compliance Karen Caple thanked all the participants for providing their comments: “The department provided a number of different platforms for stakeholders to provide feedback and we saw a great response to our information sessions that we hosted both in Perth and throughout the regions.

“The suggestions have prompted some key changes and these have been outlined in the Response to Submission document.”

All details on the proposed amendments are available online.
