The Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) published its first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)in 2012, demonstrating its commitment to developing strong and effective partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
The RAP has seen the department take actions that enhance relationships, respect and opportunities for the mutual benefit of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Western Australians.
The department recognises this approach puts it in a prime position to make a difference in overcoming the issues Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders face.
One way the department is fostering this is through its Aboriginal Employment Strategy, which annually offers a employment opportunities including entry-level and administrative to graduate and technical positions.
To find out more about the Aboriginal Employment Strategy, visit the Aboriginal Employment section of the website.
The department also runs a temporary employment register, which offers contracts of up to six months to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
