DMP staff travel across Western Australia to promote the department's new Community Partnership Resource Sector Award
Date: Monday, 15 February 2016

Communities throughout Western Australia have been given a unique chance to learn more about the Department of Mines and Petroleum’s (DMP) prestigious new Community Partnership Resources Sector Award.

Over the past few weeks, DMP staff have been visiting a number of regional locations across the State to hold information sessions about the new award.

The meetings have allowed DMP staff to engage directly with community groups and stakeholders and answer any questions they might have.

DMP’s Executive Director Mineral Titles Dr Ivor Roberts, who has given a short presentation at the events, said the sessions had been a success.

“The feedback we have received so far has been fantastic,” Dr Roberts said.

“During our visits we have already heard about a number of innovative partnerships between resources companies and the local communities in which they operate that have resulted in sustainable and lasting benefits.

“From talking directly with those who have attended the Community Partnership Award information sessions it has also become clear that there is a lot of support for the launch of this award and the recognition it brings.”

The Community Partnership Award will publicly celebrate examples of outstanding leadership that have helped to build strong community partnerships and created positive and meaningful outcomes.

Any community group, individual or company operating within Western Australia’s minerals, energy resources or extractive industries is eligible to nominate a project for DMP’s Community Partnership Award.

“By working together resources companies and communities can help to build relationships that leave a positive and lasting legacy,” Dr Roberts said.

All Community Partnership Award entries must be received by Friday 29 April.

Submissions will be considered by an Assessment Panel before a Selection Committee, chaired by DMP’s Director General Richard Sellers, makes the final decision.

Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Marmion will then present the winners with their awards at the annual DMP Awards for Excellence night in October.
