Mining Act fees and charges 2021-2022

Changes effective from 1 July 2021
Date: Wednesday, 23 June 2021

The State Government has made its decision on Mining Act fees and charges for the coming financial year, with fees effective from 1 July 2021.

An updated list of the charges is available on the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) website.

The new cost structure has been gazetted and the department has updated its systems and some of its online forms to meet the 1 July start date.

The increase in mining tenement rentals in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 Budgets will:

  • bolster the Exploration Incentive Scheme;
  • increase resourcing for processing the backlog of mining tenement applications; and
  • boost funding for the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia.

Any further announcements of new expenditure will be made through the State Budget process.

The Mining Act fees and charges can be paid at the department’s Customer Service Counter in Perth and regionally at any mining registrar’s office. DMIRS accepts all methods of payment, including Electronic Funds Transfer (EFTPOS) and credit card.

DMIRS accepts Visa and MasterCard payments but a credit card limit of $99,999 applies per transaction.

If the transaction limit of $99,999 is exceeded then the transaction will be rejected. This is important because applications such as Exploration Licences secure priority by satisfying the initial requirements of the legislation, including payment of fees.

The department's Mineral Titles Online system can be used to order and pay for official tenement searches and data extracts, pay mining tenement rentals and lodge various Mining Act forms.
