Who issues codes of practice?

Codes of practice for mining operations are issued by the department’s Resources Safety Division under the Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994, with the endorsement of the Mining Industry Advisory Committee (MIAC) and approval from the Minister for Mines and Petroleum.

Find out more about the role and objectives of MIAC at What is the Mining Industry Advisory Committee (MIAC)?

Codes of practice issued under the Dangerous Goods Safety Act 2004 may also apply to mining operations. Refer to Dangerous goods safety - codes of practice.

Approved codes of practice and standards

In addition to the codes of practice published by the department’s Resources Safety Division, the Welding Technology Institute's Health and Safety in Welding Technical Note (TN07) was approved as a code of practice under section 93 of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994 by the then Minister for Employment Protection (effective 7 July 2006).
