Proposed Activity Dates

Exploration Approvals are valid for a maximum of 4 years irrespective of the dates entered in the application. Entering indicative dates will help DMP to determine audit planning and any specific environmental or safety guidance.

If approved, the PoW will be granted for 48 months from the date shown on the approval letter. Application for an extension to timeframe can be made in writing to the Environment Division, DMP, prior to the expiry of the approval. A PoW is only valid on live tenure. Rehabilitation is to be undertaken within 6 months of the date the ground disturbance occurred to comply with tenement conditions.

Mineral Targets

Multiple commodities can be selected from the drop down menu. If the application is for water exploration, please select Other and enter Water under brief description.

Disturbance Table Summary

This table summarises the data entered in the spatial section and cannot be modified without modifying the activities entered in the spatial section.

The table can be exported to excel and reorganised based on the column headings:

  • Tenement/s
  • Activity Name (a default name is given if nothing is entered in metadata);
  • Activity Type;
  • Proposed area disturbed (hectares);
  • Proposed mass disturbed (tonnes);
  • Rehabilitation Liability Estimate  and Estimated Levy (both relate to the Mining Rehabilitation Fund. See below for further detail).

Rehabilitation Liability Estimate (RLE)

Each activity has a Rehabilitation Liability Estimate (RLE), which is an estimate of the cost of returning the land to a rehabilitated state. We estimate the RLE associated with each activity type here. Please note that the total RLE stated is based only on the proposed activities associated with this PoW and does not take into account any other existing disturbance on the tenement(s).

Estimated Levy (Est. Levy)

The Mining Rehabilitation Fund Act 2012 requires tenement holders to contribute annually to a levy. The amount of levy payable is calculated by multiplying the RLE by the Fund Contribution Rate. We estimate the levy payable associated with the activity here, but there are rules around the amount to be paid which are covered in the Mining Rehabilitation Fund Regulations 2013. Please note the total levy payable stated is based only on the proposed activities associated with this PoW and does not take into account any other existing disturbance on the tenement(s).

Excess Tonnage

When the proposed activities entered in the Spatial section involve depth disturbance, you will be asked under "When and What" whether activities are within prescribed tonnages for the tenements. The prescribed tonnage limit for a Prospecting Licence is 500 tonnes and the tonnage limit for an Exploration Licence is 1000 tonnes. Any additional tonnes must be approved by the Department. Please note, disturbed tonnage is cumulative for the life of the tenement.

Question asked by the system:

Programme within the prescribed tonnage limits for the tenement/s?

Responses:

  • Yes - the proposal is still within prescribed tonnage limits (select this answer if the cumulative tonnage over the life of the tenement has not exceeded the prescribed limit).
  • No - however excess tonnage has been approved (select this answer if an application for excess tonnage has already been approved for the proposed activities).
  • No, but an application for excess tonnage has been lodged (select this response if an application has been submitted. Provide the reference number and lodgement date of the excess tonnage application)

  • No, make application now (select this response if an application has not been made. You can apply via the link provided then provide the reference number and date in the PoW lodgement).
