Company charged in relation to Brockman 2 Mine death

Department of Mines and Petroleum charged company in relation to 2011 fatality.

Pilbara Iron Company (Services) Pty Ltd charged for failing to provide a safe working environment. 

The Department of Mines and Petroleum has charged Pilbara Iron Company (Services) Pty Ltd in relation to the death of a mine worker in 2011.

Mr Brent Glew died on 16 August 2011 while working in the mobile equipment maintenance workshop at the Brockman 2 mine. He was removing a tilt cylinder from a loader when he was fatally crushed.

DMP Resources Safety Acting Executive Director Andrew Chaplyn said the Pilbara Iron Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto, had been charged under the Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994 for failing to provide a safe working environment.
