The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) has received 52 submissions, including six from prospectors, for Round 16 of the State Government’s co-funded exploration drilling program.

The $10 million a year Exploration Incentive Scheme (EIS), which funds the drilling program and acquisition of pre-competitive geoscience data, encourages resource exploration and helps to increase the number of new mineral and energy discoveries.

Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) Acting EIS Coordinator, Charlotte Hall, said the range of commodities being sought reflect the current market and the department is encouraged by the variety of submissions.

“The locations of the proposed projects are spread throughout the State, from the South West to the west Kimberley region, and include a range of mineral commodities such as gold, lithium, base metals, potash and nickel,” she said.

Applications are currently under review by an external expert team and successful applicants will be notified in early December 2017.
