DMP named top ranking State Government graduate employer in Western Australia

The Department of Mines and Petroleum has been named as the top ranking graduate employer for State government departments in Western Australia for the second year in a row.

The department was ranked 15th overall in Australia in the nation-wide survey of graduates.

DMP Director General Richard Sellers said the latest results build on the success of the graduate program and its popularity amongst participants.

“This result recognises the rewarding experiences our graduates have participating in the department’s graduate program,” Mr Sellers said.

The survey is completed anonymously and graduates are asked to rate their employer across 25 categories.

This includes training and development, quality of work, career progression and company culture.

An overall average rating is calculated for each employer and the 75 employers with the highest overall rating are promoted by the Australian Association of Graduate Employers (AAGE).

“One of the reasons for the success of our graduate program is the inter-agency collaboration with the Department of State Development and Department of Regional Development and Lands,” Mr Sellers said.

“This provides experience across multiple government departments, increases networking and improves graduates’ understanding of the State Government as a whole.”

AAGE is the peak industry body representing organisations that recruit and develop Australian graduates, and DMP has been a full member agency since 2006.

The association provides opportunities to connect with other employers and undertakes valuable market research of the graduate employment industry.

“The association also recognises best practice in the graduate employment community through a variety of surveys and awards, so we are delighted to have such a high ranking,” Mr Sellers said.
