Date: Thursday, 12 April 2018

Nominations for the 2018 Resources Sector Awards for Excellence will close on Monday 23 April.

The Resources Sector Awards for Excellence brings together the prestigious Golden Gecko environmental awards, Community Partnership Resources Sector Award, and the Safety and Health Resources Sector Awards.

By recognising exceptional advances and innovations throughout the resources sector, the department seeks to encourage higher industry standards to help develop and maintain community confidence in mineral and petroleum activities.

The partnership between the Graham (Polly) Farmer Foundation and Rio Tinto, was recognised at the 2017 ceremony with a special commendation for their enduring partnership which supports Indigenous students to further their education and training.

The Foundation’s chief executive officer, Cate Sims said recognition from the awards has helped promote its programs to future partners.

“The commendation is further evidence of the effectiveness of our work and our ability to establish and sustain long term strategic partnerships. This is an increasingly important consideration for potential funding partners,” Ms Sims said.

When asked what advice he would give to anyone entering the Community Partnership Resources Sector Award, Ms Sims said she recommends people convey their passion through the nomination.

“Focus on the evidence that your project or program and partnerships make a real long-term difference and demonstrate a holistic approach to all you do.”

Winners of the Resources Sector Awards for Excellence set an example to industry of innovation and excellence. They will have the opportunity to share their experiences with government, industry and the community.

Award recipients will be able to differentiate themselves amongst other organisations and businesses with a higher level of credibility. Most importantly, businesses will highlight their respect for their staff and the community in which they operate, and the broader Western Australian community.
