Date: Wednesday, 21 December 2016

The Department of Mines and Petroleum is seeking a second round of public comment on the draft code of practice for Ventilation in Western Australian metalliferous mining operations.

Following initial public comment received in September 2016, the draft code has been revised and stakeholders are now invited to provide feedback on the amended document.

Mines Safety Director and State Mining Engineer Andrew Chaplyn said the code aims to provide standards to industry to enable them to protect workers from being exposed to hazardous atmospheres in mining operations.

"Once we have compiled the feedback, the department will present an information session for industry to explain how the code should be used to inform strategies for maintaining good ventilation," Mr Chaplyn said.

The draft code of practice for Ventilation in Western Australian metalliferous mining operations is available for public comment until Wednesday, 18 January 2017 and feedback should be sent to rsdcomms@dmp.wa.gov.au

The information session will be held during the afternoon on Monday 23 January, at the Department of Mines and Petroleum in East Perth. To register you interest in attending, please send your contact details to rsdcomms@dmp.wa.gov.au and further details including an agenda will be provided closer to the date.
