This two-day workshop will illustrate the wealth of objective mineralogical and lithological information available in HyLogger-derived hyperspectral data obtained from GSWA’s diamond drill core archives.
It will be presented by senior Research Geoscientist Dr. Carsten Laukamp (CSIRO), Experimental Scientist Dr. Ian Lau (CSIRO), GSWA Senior Geologist Dr. Lena Hancock, GSWA Geologist Kris Sando, and UWA PhD candidate Heta Lampinen.
On Day 1 we will compare processed and interpreted HyLogger data from drill core from three WA locations with manual logging of the same core by workshop participants (so BYO hand lens, scribe, etc.):
- Golden Mile deep stratigraphic hole (Kalgoorlie Terrane)
- Abra polymetallic mineralization (Capricorn Orogen)
- Windimurra V-Fe mineralization (Murchison Terrane).
A tour of the GSWA HyLogger facility will be provided, with an opportunity for workshop participants to analyse one personal rock/mineral specimen each.
NOTE: People entering the Core Library must be wearing closed shoes.
On Day 2 participants will receive introductory training in using The Spectral Geologist (TSG8) software package to interpret HyLogger data for another GSWA drill core. The hyperspectral data set and a single-day TSG8 licence will be issued, but participants must bring their own laptop with TSG8 pre-loaded (instructions will be provided). Please also ensure that you have “Administrator” privileges to install software on your Laptop BEFORE attending the workshop.
Registration is FREE, but essential, as places are limited to 20. Please book early to secure your place, and only if you are sure that you will attend.
Catering will be provided. Please advise of any dietary requirements when registering.
Parking is free. Arriving vehicles will be directed to appropriate parking bays by Core Library staff.
