What is the starting salary?

The salary is Public Service and Government Officers General Agreement 2017 Level 3, which is $69,896 per annum plus 9.5 per cent superannuation.

Does the department employ overseas students?

You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident to be eligible to apply for the graduate program.

Does the department recruit mature-aged students?

  • Mature-aged students are welcome to apply. However, as the graduate program is an equity and diversity employment initiative, we are actively looking for recent university graduates from any of the following diversity groups to apply:
    • people 24 years and under
    • people with disability
    • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people

    The graduate program is only one way to gain employment into the departments. A number of other entry- and mid- level job opportunities can arise throughout the year which you are welcome to apply for. Keep an eye on the WA Jobs Board for these opportunities.

Where would I be working?

As the graduate program allows for rotations across two departments, graduates can work in any one of the following locations.

Graduates may also undertake work placements in other offices; this will be discussed with the graduate and agreed prior to confirmation of the rotation.

When do applications open?

  • Applications for the graduate program open in August for an intake of January the following year (e.g. Applications will open in August 2019 for an intake in January 2020).

How do I apply for the graduate program?

Graduate opportunities are posted on JobsWA. You need to ensure that your application provides all the information required in the advertisement, and that it is received by the department before the closing date and time.

How do I get the 'wow factor' into my application?

  • Your suitability for interview will be assessed from the information provided in your written application. To be considered for a position, you must provide everything that is requested. Read the job advert carefully!
  • The graduate positions are very competitive. To really impress the panel and be shortlisted, you need to show us that you understand what we do as a department, and that you understand the business area/s where the position is located. You can then link this to your degree and any other relevant experience that you have (previous employment, volunteer work, and interests) to tell us what it is about the position that really interests you, and how it fits with your career aspirations.
