Petroleum and Geothermal Information (WAPIMS)

Western Australian Petroleum and Geothermal Information Management System (WAPIMS) is a petroleum exploration database containing data on wells, geophysical surveys, titles, and other related exploration and production data. The system also contains the Core Library (Perth and Kalgoorlie) database.

The Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act 1967 and the Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act 1982 requires the provisions of information on petroleum activities to assist in ensuring that the Minister is sufficiently informed about all significant aspects of exploration, discovery, development and production or injection operation in relation to petroleum and geothermal energy resources.

Online submissions of petroleum compliance data, which is now available through the Petroleum and Geothermal Register (PGR), provides industry with the ability to submit petroleum data required under the petroleum act and regulations.

Users must be registered against a company in order to access the online submission system. The data received are strictly confidential; only data lodged by the Company you are registered for will be displayed.

Online submission of petroleum compliance data allows online lodgement and tracking of the following:

  • Well Activity and Completion Reports and Data
  • Surveys Reports and Data
  • Titles Reports and General Study Reports

The system also specifies the format and the media required for data submitted, provides templates and allows uploading of files up to 150Mb.

WAPIMS contains released data and all public information arising out of petroleum exploration activities within Western Australia’s State jurisdiction (onshore and State territorial waters) together with Commonwealth offshore activities released prior to 1 January 2012.

For information on petroleum exploration activities in Australian Commonwealth waters off Western Australia (outside State territorial waters) released after 1 January 2012, please contact Geoscience Australia at or the National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator (NOPTA).
